Reviews

My daughter and I wanted to have a special journey together. We were excited and a little nervous once we decided on Africa as our destination. The best thing we did was to choose Camel Excursions Morocco as our guide. Ismail was wonderful from our first email inquiry as we began planning our trip. He replied promptly and made suggestions that relieved the stress of figuring out transportation and lodging. From the moment he met us at the airport in Casablanca we felt safe and were extremely pleased with the quality of accommodations and the personal touch he put on the sights we saw. His cheerful smile and friendly personality made the many miles we traveled sail by. He stopped often to point out view spots great for taking pictures and for stretching our legs along the way. The highlight was riding the camels into the desert and spending the night under the stars in the sand dunes of the Sahara. He made us fall in love with his country rich in history and diversity. We will never forget this trip and the time we spent with Ismail. It was the trip of a lifetime!
Our tour guide/driver (Shoutout to Mohammad, he was simply the best) picked us up from our hotel in Casablanca and eventually dropped us off in Fes right infront our hostel. He took care of everything during the trip and made sure we were as comfortable and safe as possible. Make sure to sit in the front with him, because while your lame friends sleep in the back he would tell your everything you need to know about Morocco. The accommodations are extremely comfortable. Make sure to pick the luxury camp in the desert, it's absolutely worth the price. After hiking sand dunes the best thing is a hot shower. There's power and wifi, although you should have plenty to look at in the night when the stars come out. Also, don't miss the Sahara sunrise. We spoke to people who traveled on the same route but with other tours, and their experience was nowhere as great as ours. It is absolutely worth it. Ismael is great at responding to questions and emails. Tell Mohammad Kevin says salaam sahibi

Majorelle Garden

The Majorelle Garden was planned by Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962), the son of Nancy’s Art Nouveau ébéniste (cabinet maker), Louis Majorelle. Jacques Majorelle, a young ambitious painter, was sent to Morocco in 1917 to recover from a serious medical ailment. After a brief stay in Casablanca, he traveled to Marrakech, where he, like many of his contemporaries, fell in love with the brilliant colors and street life. He eventually decided to reside permanently in Marrakech after traveling throughout North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Majorelle established himself as a prominent Orientalist painter during his career. The distinctive hue of vivid cobalt blue, bleu Majorelle—Majorelle Blue, was inspired by the colored tiles he had seen around Marrakech and in Berber burn-houses and was utilized widely in the garden and its buildings. Majorelle patented the color that bears his name before his death. [when?]

Majorelle purchased a four-acre parcel on the edge of a palm grove in Marrakech in 1923, just four years after his marriage to Andrée Longueville, and built a mansion in the Moroccan style. He commissioned architect Paul Sinoir to create a Cubist mansion for the land in 1931. He gradually acquired more land, increasing his stake by about 10 acres. Majorelle began developing a lush garden in the grounds surrounding the mansion, which became known as the Jardins Majorelle (Majorelle Garden). The garden became his life’s work, and he worked on it for nearly forty years. Continue reading

Koutoubia Mosque

The mosque was built in 1147 after the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu’min seized Marrakesh from the Almoravids. Abd al-Mu’min completely restored the mosque in 1158, with Ya’qub al-Mansur perhaps finishing construction of the minaret around 1195. This second mosque is the one that still stands today. It is regarded as a classic and significant example of Almohad architecture, as well as Moroccan mosque architecture in general. The 77-metre (253-foot)-tall minaret tower is adorned with different geometric arch designs and is topped by a spire and metal orbs. It most certainly inspired other buildings built in the same era, such as the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. The minaret is also a significant landmark and icon of Marrakesh.
