Some places to see while doing our Grand Tour of Morocco 14 days itinerary
Skoura
Skoura is a historic rich oasis surrounded by vast palm groves (a “palmeraie”), located at the confluence of multiple rivers and streams flowing down from the middle High Atlas mountains. A few of these rivers merge within the oasis to form the Oued el-Hajjaj, which connects to the Oued Dadès (Dadès River) a little distance south. Skoura’s major modern settlement is located on the oasis’s eastern side, along the main route from Ouarzazate. Skoura is also a Geological Basin name.
Taroudant
Taroudant is a city in southern Morocco’s Sous Valley. It is located on the road to Ouarzazate and the Sahara desert, east of Agadir, and south of Marrakesh. The village is regarded as the “Grandmother of Marrakech” because, with its encircling ramparts, it resembles a tiny Marrakech. The Saadi dynasty briefly used Taroudant as a capital in the sixteenth century before moving its royal seat to Marrakesh. The city now bears the appearance of a tiny fortified market town on a caravan route. Taroudant is well-known for its indigenous crafts, including as jewelry and carpets. In contrast to Marrakesh, practically the entire city of Taroudant is contained behind its walls. Outside the city walls, a new neighborhood is being built around the campus of an Ibn Zohr University of Agadir faculty.
