Agadir - Taroudante - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate

At 8 a.m., you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Ouarzazate via Taroudant, Taliouine, and Taznakht. The route continues to Ait Ben Haddou’s kasbah from here. After lunch, we visit the most famous Kasbah in Morocco, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afternoon excursion to the Atlas Film Studios (where dozens of these films were shot and the sets are still intact: Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, Game of Thrones…), then drive to Ouarzazate for the night.

Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Alnif – Risani – Merzouga

After breakfast, we’ll travel over the Anti Atlas Mountains to Agdez, the starting point of the Draa Valley. We go east to Nkob, a popular settlement known for its 45 Kasbahs set against a palmary backdrop, through barren Saharan terrain until we reach Tafilalet, the world’s largest oasis. We continue deeper into Erg Chebbi’s desolate sand dunes. You will stay in a motel along the dune line for restrooms before going on a camel ride after sundown for an overnight stay in a desert camp with dinner and breakfast.

Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge – Ouarzazate

If you get up early enough, you may see the sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the movement of shadows create a breathtaking scene. The journey back to Merzouga for a shower is by camel, and after breakfast, the schedule continues to Ouarzazate via the Todra gorges (300m high canyons), where you can hike and have lunch at a local restaurant. We proceed along the 1000 Thousand Kasbahs Road, which is lined by massive kasbahs on both sides. Some of the old fortified houses have been rebuilt, but the majority are in ruins. We travel via Dades Valley and Rose Valley before arriving at the Skoura Palmery, which features a large number of Kasbahs, including “Amrhidil,” that are surrounded by gardens and palm trees. We’ll then drive to Ouarzazate for the night, with dinner and breakfast included.

Ouarzazate – Taliouine – Agadir

We drive from Ouarzazate to Taznakht, which is known for its Berber gelims and carpets, after breakfast. Later, we cross the Tizi-n-Ikhsane and Tizi-n-Tighatine passes on our way to Agadir. In Taliouine, we pause for lunch (the heart of the saffron growing area of Morocco). In the afternoon, the road leads us to Taroudant and finally to Agadir, where we arrive at by the evening.

We took a four-day desert tour from Agadir. This could not have been a more ideal overnight excursion! Amine, our driver from Agadir to Merzouga, was prompt and kind. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he even taught me Moroccan and Arabic. The desert was the ideal combination of Arabic camels, Berber music, a bonfire, local food, a lovely camp site, sunsets, and lots of laughter. It was both instructive and thrilling. I would do it again and try out the other tours they offer without hesitation:)
