Madrasa
Madrasa is the Arabic name for any form of educational institution, secular or religious (of any religion), for primary or secondary education. Madrasah arifah, medresa, madrassa, madraza, medrese, and other transliterations exist. Outside the Arab world, the term usually refers to a specific type of religious school or college for the study of Islam, however this is not always the only subject studied.
In an architectural and historical context, the phrase mainly refers to a type of historical Muslim institution that primarily taught Islamic law and jurisprudence (fiqh), as well as other disciplines on occasion. Nizam al-Mulk, a vizier of the Seljuks in the 11th century, is largely credited with founding the first network of formal madrasas in Iran, Mesopotamia, and Khorasan. Over the next few centuries, the construction of madrasas spread over most of the Muslim world, generally following similar architectural forms.
The Middle Atlas
The Middle Atlas is a Moroccan mountain range. It is part of the Atlas mountain range, a mountainous region covering more than 100,000 km2 and accounting for 15% of the country’s landmass. The Middle Atlas is the northernmost and second highest of Morocco’s three main Atlas Mountain chains. The High Atlas lies to the south, split by the rivers Moulouya and Um Er-Rbiâ. The Middle Atlas are the westernmost extremity of a huge plateaued basin that extends eastward into Algeria and is limited to the north by the Tell Atlas and to the south by the Saharan Atlas, both of which are mostly in Algeria. The Rif Mountains, located north of the Middle Atlas and separated by the Sebou River, are an extension of the Baetic System, which includes the Sierra Nevada in southern Spain. The Sebou basin is not only the key transportation route between Atlantic and Mediterranean Morocco, but it is also the primary agricultural zone of the country, watered by the Middle Atlas range.
