Crossing the Middle Atlas with its beautiful mountains we will catch a first glimpse of the South-Est incredible architecture. Lunch in the Midelt (the city of apple). In the afternoon we will drive to Erfoud and into the desert. You will change the 4WD car to the 8WD camel and enjoy a nice ride through the beautiful Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes, where you will spend the evening in a comfortable desert camp. The night is a great opportunity to enjoy the magical starry sky after been entertained by the music of the Berber drums.
Day 3: Desert - Ziz valley - Ifran - Fes
We wake up to admire the beautiful sunrise in the Sahara desert and feel the desert breeze. After breakfast, we start our journey back to Fes visiting the Ziz valley, a huge oasis containing over five million palm trees, edged by many Ksours (fortified villages). Lunch in Midelt and then we drive to Ifran (Moroccan Switzerland) where we take a break, also take some pictures. We arrive in Fes at sunset time.
Day 4: Guided visit of Fes - Airport transfer
If your flight is not in the morning, we start our guided tour of Fes at 8/9 am with an official guide to discover the UNESCO-protected old Medina. The old Medina of Fes is declared a World Heritage of Humanity in 1981 and is considered the oldest and most beautiful in Morocco. The doors lead us to a tangle of narrow streets and alleyways around the mosque Karaouine. Its university is the oldest in the world. After walking inside the Medina we take the car and drive outside the Medina to explore the unique seven doors of Fez, Royal Palace, then the Andalusian architecture in the Jewish quarter, then our next step will be in the old fort to admire the Panoramic view of the 9400 street of the Medina, visit the pottery and tiles factor. Thus, we transfer you to the airport, train station or your accommodation if you still have time in Fes. End of our 4 days tour Fes and desert experience.

Reviews

“Our group of friends (with kids ranging in age from baby to 16 years) just returned from a tour with Rachid and two other guides. A couple of my friends have also posted their reviews–and I need to echo their thoughts as well as give some advice for those planning trips. Our accommodations were fantastic. We walked into the first Riad at night and it felt like something out of a fairy tale! (The dinner at our first Riad was one of the best meals I had in Morocco.) The “camping” in the Sahara was a once-in-a-lifetime experience…as were the camels and the sandboarding was so fun. Rachid and the other guides were incredibly happy and also so very attentive to our group. Each of the drivers spoke like 3-5 different languages and worked very hard to make sure we all were having a good time. (In fact, Rachid woke up at 4 am to arrange for private transportation for one member of our group to get back to Fes for a flight when the mountain pass unexpectedly was closed due to snow)”
“Even before my 4 days 3 nights tour Fes and desert Sahara tour, Ismail, our guide and enterprising young owner of Camel Excursion impressed with his swift responses, accommodating manner, and goodness – all I felt just communicating with him via email. The camel ride, the sunset, the sandfish, the glam camp (go luxe everyone! You’ll be so wowed!), and the welcome hospitality totally blew me away! And at dinner, when the lights dimmed, Ismail, Muhammed (owner of the glam camp), the other guides, and all staff surprised me with a birthday cake and traditional drum performance in celebration – all this even more precious after I found out thru’ our after-dinner campfire chats that birthdays have no significance to the Berbers and yet, they made a big fuss for me cos it matter to us urbanites.”
“Do stay up and gaze into the pitch darkness of the Sahara sky glistening with twinkling stars & the Milky Way (inshallah) and listen…..to the sound of the wind…. and the sound of silence… esp the silence…so surreal, so intimate, so sensual. Just like how I imagined it and way much more…. I highly recommend anyone to go to the Sahara with Ismail and his team. You’ll not only get a Sahara experience you’ll never forget, you will also experience a little bit of the Berber magic and goodness! This, hands down is one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had… and I travel very regularly…”

Fes old Medina

In AD 789, Idris ibn Abdallah chose to create a new town on the right bank of the Fez River as the capital of his newly acquired empire. Many of the original residents were fleeing a rebellion in Cordoba (modern-day Spain). However, in 809, his son, Idris II, chose to establish his own capital on the opposite bank of the Fez River. Despite the fact that they were only separated by a short river, the cities evolved independently and remained two separate cities until they were merged in the 11th century by the Almoravids. This time, many refugees chose to settle in the new city, but this time they were fleeing an insurrection in Kairouan (in modern Tunisia). According to traditional traditions, one of these immigrants, Fatima al-Fihri, founded the University of Al-Karaouine (or al-Qarawiyyin) in 859. According to UNESCO and Guinness World Records, it is the world’s oldest continually operating university. On the other bank of the river, the Al-Andalusiyyin Mosque (or Mosque of the Andalusians) is also thought to have been founded by her sister in the same year.

Fez lost its title as a capital under the Almoravids, and it was relocated to the newly founded Marrakesh. Fez was a wealthy trading city during Almohad rule (12th-13th century), despite not being a capital. It even became the world’s largest city at the time, with around 200,000 people living there.

Chouara Leather Tannery

Chouara Tannery (sometimes written Chouwara) is one of three tanneries in the Moroccan city of Fez. It is the city’s largest and one of its oldest tanneries. It is located in Fes el Bali, the city’s oldest Medina area, near the Saffarin Madrasa and the Oued Fes (also known as the Oued Bou Khrareb). The tanning business has continued to operate in the same manner as it did in the early centuries since the city’s establishment. Today, the city’s tanning business is regarded as one of its key tourist attractions. The tanneries are densely packed with spherical stone containers filled with dye or white liquids to soften the hides. The leather goods made in tanneries are exported all over the world.
