Erg Chebbi
Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco’s many ergs, large expanses of dunes formed by windblown sand. There are many other ergs, such as Erg Chigaga near M’hamid. Technically all of these ergs lie within an area of semiarid Presaharan steppes and are not part of the Sahara Desert, which lies some distance to the south. read more on wikipedia
The Moroccan nomads
The Moroccan nomads seem to be Imazighen / Berbers or descendants of Saudi Arabs. This is what distinguishes the Moroccan nomads. The tribes are differentiated from each other in order to distinguish themselves from other tribal groups. The culture of the Arab tribes is mainly patriarchal, while the Imazighen/Bereber culture is matriarchal. In short, the main role of women in these tribes is unmistakable. It can range from sexual object to agent and self-sufficient. Nomads are also culture-driven; nomads impose the cultures of their ancestors on their family members. You are not ours if you are not like us. In other words, in-group tribalism is extremely strong. The modes of thought associated with nomadism and tribalism are ingrained from childhood. The sense of belonging to a nomadic tribe and family has already been absorbed and instilled in them. Finally, despite their efforts to rebel against tribal and nomadic values and culture, the children of nomads fail to erase the memories of the past. This is not to say that tribalism is immune to their corrupting influence. However, it has become impenetrable, invisible and powerful.
