Some places to see while doing our 10 Days Morocco itinerary from Tangier
Tangier
Since Phoenician times, Tangier, a Moroccan port on the Strait of Gibraltar, has been a key crossing point between Africa and Europe. On the whitewashed hillside of the medina is the Dar el Makhzen, a palace of the sultans that is now a museum displaying Moroccan antiques. In a former consulate built in the Moorish style in 1821, the American Legation Museum, also located in the medina, recalls the history of early diplomatic ties between the United States and Morocco.
Essaouira
On Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Essaouira is a port city and vacation destination. The Skala de la Kasbah, coastal ramparts built in the 18th century by European engineers, guard the medina (old town). There are vistas of the ocean and old brass cannons lining the walls. The city’s crescent beach is well-known for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and surfing thanks to the strong “Alizée” trade winds.
