Itinerary of the 5 Days Desert Tour to the South of Morocco from Marrakech
Day 1: Marrakech sighseeing – High Atlas – Ouarzazate
We will come to pick you up from your accommodation, airport or wherever you want at 9am. We will start with the visit of the famous Majorelle gardens. The garden was made in the 1920s by the French painter Jacques Majorelle, with marble pools, raised pathways, banana trees, groves of bamboo, coconut palms and bougainvilleas. After years of neglect, the garden was then taken and restored by the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge. Visit The Bahia Palace, a haven of shady courtyards and blue mosaic walls built for Ahmed Ben Moussa. The palace also includes beautiful quarters for his 4 wives and 24 concubines.
We leave Marrakech and start enjoying the beautiful views of the hight Atlas mountians, we stop along the way to take pictures, in the entrance of Ouarzazate we will visit the cinema Studios before we check-in our accommodation. Night in a hotel/riad with private shower/bathroom in Ouarzazate.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa valley – Nkoub – Rissani – Merzouga desert
After breakfast we leave Ouarzazate towards the huge palmgrove of Tafilalet through Draa valley, Nkoub and Tazarine oasis, lunch in Nkoub or Rissani. We start our adventure to the amazing dunes of Erg Chebbi in order to enjoy camel riding excursions, see the sunset and check-in in an equipped camp with drums music in the middle of the Sahara, this is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise. Night in a very nice camp with private shower/bathroom.
Day 3: Merzouga – Gnaoua Music – Visit of Nomad family – Gardens – Check-in the hotel/riad to relax.
Wake up early morning to enjoy the sunrise in the Sahara Desert and a great breakfast. After these beautiful moments, you will ride your camel back to the the meeting point with the driver then we drive to a traditional house to listen to the Gnaoua (Oreginal from Sudan) music that has a strong link with the Gnaouas religion and spirituality. It is played during religious ceremonies and cultural parties, same as centuries ago. The instruments include the Ganga (big drum), the Tangagat (small drum), the Iquarquachins(small castanets) and the Hajhouj (a 3 string instrument with low tones). We will visit some desert mines, Berber nomads and the palm trees Oasis. Towards lunchtime, we go back to Merzouga, Free time to to enjoy your hotel and have some time to relax. Overnight in a hotel/riad with private shower/bathroom.
Day 4: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Rose valley/Skoura Oasis.
After breakfast we leave the beautiful desert to Tinghir and Todra Gorges for lunch. The road passes through Tinejdad and the Todra gorges. This stunning area affords plenty of opportunities to walk, such as along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorge. Later, we will continue to the Rose valley/Skoura. Night in a hotel/riad with private shower/bathroom.
Day 5: Rose valley/Skoura oasis – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Atlas Mount – Marrakech.
After breakfast, we will drive through the villages of this charming area passing fields cultivated by the Berber women, with the peaks of the High Atlas as a fitting backdrop. Ouarzazate known as Hollywood of Morocco, we will visit the Panoramic views of the Taourirt Kasbah, then we make our way to the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the backdrop to many Hollywood blockbusters, this is the most famous kasbah in Morocco. From here we start crossing the high Atlas, Tizi n’Tichka. At late afternoon we will arrive in Marrakech.
